PARTICIPATING
RESEARCHERS
Jitta Jessica (Dr.) is Director
of CHDC. She is a medical doctor with specialisation in paediatrics
and holds also position as Senior Lecturer at Makerere University. She
is the Chairperson of the Committee on Health Research under the National
Council for Science and Technology. Her research interests include:
nutrition, mothers' perception and management of children's illnesses,
and health care systems.
Kaharuza Frank (Dr.) is Head of
Research at CHDC. He is a medical doctor specialising in obstetrics
and gynecology. His research has been primarily focused on sexually
transmitted infections and maternal and child health.
Katahoire Anne (Dr.) is
Head of Department,Adult Education and Communication Makerere Uinersity
acts as Coordinator between her department and CHDC (part-time secondment).
Her fields of interest incude the relation between education and health,
communication, community studies, mother and child health, and project
evaluation.
Nshakira Nathan (Dr.) is a medical
doctor with a specialisation in public health. He has carried out several
projects with CHDC and is currently on contract .His research concerns
sexually transmitted infections, quality of care, and helth care systems.
Lwanga John Baptist is the Information
Technology officer at CHDC. He has experience in designing surveys,
data entry and analysis and acts as advisor/consultant/teacher on many
aspects of IT.
Twebaze Jenipher is the secretary
for TORCH at CHDC. She is a Graduate in Social Sciences. Her interests
are communication and quality of health care services. She works on
correspondence, data management, reports, and day-to-day administrative
matters.
Mutumba Augustine is the Administrator
at CHDC. He is a graduate in Social Work and Social Administration and
has worked as project manager on several large national studies. He
advises researchers on project management, budget development, and accounting.
Kristensen Mogens Brandt (Dr.) is
a medical doctor specialising in internal medicine. He was Project Coordinator
for the Uganda Essential Drugs Management Programme and has served as
consultant to Danida and WHO. He was head of a medical department at
a Danish hospital for 13 years and is currently Editor of the Danish
Catalogue of Pharmaceuticals. His research interests include health
care systems and use of medicinal drugs.
Flemming Scheutz is Docent at the
Department of Oral Epidemiology and Public Health, Royal Dental College,
Faculty of Health Sciences, Aarhus University. He holds a doctorate
in odontology and a Ph.D. in public health. He has carried out projects
and consultancies in Asia and Africa, and has research interests in
oral health care and maternal and child health in developing countries.
Svend Sabroe is lektor (associate
professor) at the Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine, Aarhus
University. He is a medical doctor with a specialisation in epidemiology
and public health. He has wide teaching experience and has supervised
Ph.D projects in several developing countries. His research interest
is social and occupational predictors of health and disease.
Whyte Michael A. is lektor and Chairman
at the Institute of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen. He has a
Ph.D in anthropology and has done extensive community research in Uganda
and Kenya, with emphasis on household and family structure. His research
interests include agriculture, food security, community organisation,
and development.
Whyte Susan Reynolds Ph.D., is
a professor at the Institute of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen.
She has done long term ethnographic research in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania
in the areas of gender, family organisation, and health. Her work in
medical anthropology focuses on disability, pharmaceuticals, changes
in health care systems, and local practices concerning misfortune. She
is concerned with applying anthropology.
